206 3RD STREET STUDY
A new bar/restaurant to be located in downtown Des Moines’ entertainment district. The project is challenged with a no setback adjacency to a historical landmark. The building consciously steps back to avoid the existing fenestration of the Historic Saddlery building.
To fit into the urban context the building used steel and masonry industrial like construction. The 3rd Street facade is broken into smaller scale proportions to commemorate the pedestrian scale buildings historically on the side streets. A 3-part window layout proportioned to match the wrought iron street level façade of the Saddlery building and the Earle and Le Basquait facades.
